Client Featured in Chaplaincy Project Dies

Lilian Gelbart, featured in the “We See You, We Hear You” portraits as part of a project between JFS Community Chaplain Rabbi Lynn Liberman and local artist Anita White, died peacefully on November 15, 2023. “Lilian was an extraordinary person who loved her family, read books endlessly and typically greeted others with a beautiful welcoming smile and bright twinkle in her eyes,” said Rabbi Lynn.

From the eulogy shared at her funeral, Jewish tradition teaches that to reach the age of 100 is an age when “one goes out of life,” (Pirkei Avot 5:21). But for Lilian, who lived better than 101 years, she did so with her own special fullness of life, in her words, “We should live and be well.”
