Exploration of the processes involved in transmission of historical trauma among African-American, Indigenous, refugee and immigrant populations. Panelists will discuss their own experiences with the impact of historical trauma on second, third and in some cases many generations-long transmissions of trauma. 2.5 free CEUs.
In the first 90 minutes of the session Dr. Felsen will talk about the processes involved in transmission of historical trauma among African-American, Indigenous, refugee and immigrant populations. Following Dr. Felsen’s remarks, panelists will discuss their own experiences with the impact of historical trauma on second, third and in some cases many generations-long transmissions of trauma. Panelists include Samuel Simmons, Jessica Gourneau, Consolee Nishimwe and Helen Siegel.
Presented by Dr. Irit Felsen, herself a child of Survivors. She studied in Israel, Germany and at Yale University. She is a member of the Yale Trauma Study Group, an adjunct professor at Columbia University and Yeshiva University, and the co-convener of the Trauma Working Group of the NGO Committee on Mental Health in the UN. She has published widely about survivors and about intergenerational transmission in the second generation.
