JFS Presents Documentary at Twin Cities Jewish Film Festival

The JFS Bruce Goodman Read in Color Little Free Library partners with YALA (Young Adult Leadership Action) MPLS to present “Rabbi on the Block” as part of the Twin Cities Jewish Film Festival on Thursday, September 19 at 7:00PM at The Main Cinema movie theater in Minneapolis.

In this feature length documentary film, “Rabbi on the Block,” Tamar Manasseh, the charismatic rabbi and community activist from the south side of Chicago, wants African Americans and Jews to become closer allies. With one foot firmly in each of these two communities, Black Jews like Tamar are the natural bridge to help overcome decades of fear, misunderstanding and lack of communication.

The film is the Minnesota JCC’s Tikkun Olam Spotlight that highlights powerful stories from around the globe that celebrate the Jewish value of tikkun olam—repairing the world through acts of kindness, social justice and community building. Through thought-provoking documentaries, compelling narratives and inspiring short films, Tikkun Olam Spotlight aims to ignite conversations, raise awareness and motivate action to create a better world for all.

The film will be followed by live questions and answers with film director, Brad Rothschild.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 day-of and can be reserved at https://minnesotajcc.org/art-culture/jewish-film-festival/.
