JFS Launches New Transportation Service

The Community Engagement department at JFS has launched a new program providing transportation in and around St. Paul and its suburbs for people 18 and older who cannot drive or who have limited access to transportation. Those younger than 18 can participate if they are accompanied by an adult. “This new program is such an important addition to our services,” said JFS CEO Ruth Olkon. “It goes directly to our mission to help people meet life’s challenges.”

To enroll, a new rider must participate in an assessment with a JFS staff member to ensure they can safely use the program. Licensed volunteers transport clients to medical and other essential appointments or errands using their own personal vehicle and insurance. Transportation will be available to eligible riders Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with a maximum of one round trip per week.

“We’re so excited to be able to offer yet another point of contact to people,” said JFS Community Programs Coordinator Anne Myers. “The program makes it possible for people to fully participate in activities that support their health and social needs and enhance their quality of life and allow them to remain safely and comfortably in their homes.”

There is no fee for using the transportation program; however, donations to the program are always appreciated.
