JFS Conducts Virtual PEARLS Training

JFS conducted PEARLS (Program to Encourage Active and Rewarding Lives for Seniors) training for professionals including counselors, therapists, social workers, nurses and administrators.

Twenty-three people representing six agencies participated in the training. Their backgrounds vary from social workers, community health workers, and other mental health professionals from students to seasoned professionals.

“Avi and Kaci [instructors] are doing a fantastic job in the training,” said one participant. “They offered real life examples and great opportunities to practice. I’ve learned so much from this training and feel better prepared to begin doing this work.”

The goal of the training is to expand access to this proven program. “By training others to offer this counseling,” said Avi Zadaka, PEARLS counselor and training instructor, “we can create greater awareness and use of PEARLS. We know it works in reducing depression and improving mood. It’s free and right now it’s virtual, and we want to increase participation.”
