Meet the Photographer Behind the Camera

Sofya Barth

There were so many supporters at the Celebration of Service: donors, sponsors, volunteers, and guests. Meet one of the generous donors, photographer Sofya Barth of Sofy BB Photography who donated her professional photography services to the event.

After Sofy finished her tour with the Israeli Air Force as a sergeant in 2004, she attended Haifa University in Israel and earned two bachelor of arts degrees: one in Asian studies and one in political science. In 2009, she moved to China where she earned a master’s degree in International Chinese Education and worked as a kindergarten English teacher, actor, agent, photographer and translator.

She moved to the Twin Cities in 2012 and earned a second master’s degree from Concordia University in Elementary Education. While working on her degree, Sofy taught Hebrew at the University of Minnesota and Talmud Torah, and Hebrew, Mandarin Chinese and Spanish at an elementary school. She also speaks fluent Russian. Sofy currently works as an Israel Program Specialist for Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JFCS) in Minneapolis.

Photography began as a hobby while she lived in China. With all of the beautiful things she has seen in her travels to 23 countries around the world, she developed a keen eye for capturing intriguing images. Her portfolio covers many local events including Israel@70, several St. Paul Jewish Federation galas, Harry Key Leadership events, and a video for the Life and Legacy program of the Harold Grinspoon Foundation. Visit her website to learn more about her and her work.

Sofy offers still photography and videotaping services for big, small, professional and family events. Contact her at (612) 849-8232 or by email.
