Mental Health Conference

Mark your calendars for the Twin Cities Jewish Community Mental Health Conference – an event that has been raising awareness of mental health issues, reducing stigma and providing support for individuals, families and professionals since 2001.

The event, Creating Healing and All that Jazz which is free and open to people of all faiths and spiritualities will be held Sunday, October 20, at Temple Israel in Minneapolis.

Keynoter is jazz musician Sam Miltich, who will explore the intersections of mental health and the creative process and his pursuit of well-being amidst the daily challenges of living with schizophrenia. He will describe his definition of recovery and the sense of purpose he cultivates through quality engagement in career and family life.

In addition to the keynote address, the conference will offer two breakout sessions of workshops with more than 20 topics to choose from covering a broad-range of mental health issues.

Workshop topics include when it’s appropriate to seek therapy, bullying and depression among transgender youth, addiction peer recovery, eating disorders, post-partum depression, suicide prevention, crisis intervention, supporting children and teens during school-age years, social media fatigue, self-care and The Wholeness of Being: Caring for Our Spiritual Self presented by JFS Community Chaplain Rabbi Lynn Liberman. This session is intended for those of faith, little faith or no faith who are looking for ways to care for their spiritual well-being, whether for themselves or their loved ones.
