Holocaust Survivor Families: Knowing the Pain and Learning Life Lessons

March 1, 2022|7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

JFS will offer “Holocaust Survivor Families: Knowing the Pain and Learning Life Lessons” presented by Bea Hollander-Goldfein Ph.D., LMFT via Zoom on Tuesday, March 1 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Dr. Hollander-Goldfein, a licensed clinical psychologist and a licensed marriage and family therapist, is the Director of the Transcending Trauma Project sponsored by the Council for Relationships. Findings of this project are already making major contributions to the fields of trauma, coping and adaptation, and intergenerational transmission. Dr. Hollander-Goldfein lectures on a variety of clinical topics including the process of therapy, conflict management, infertility, spirituality and the psychological legacies of the Holocaust. She has co-authored two books, “Transcending Trauma: Survival Resilience and Clinical Implications in Survivor Families” and “Narrative Reflections: How Witnessing Their Stories Changes Our Lives.” Dr. Hollander-Goldfein received her doctorate from Teachers’ College at Columbia University and did her post-doctoral research at NIMH. She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional.

Dr. Hollander-Goldfein will discuss findings that emerged from the Transcending Trauma Project (TTP). The Project conducted deepened life histories with survivors designed to elicit thoughts, feelings and internal experiences in order to understand how survivors coped and how they were able to rebuild their lives after the war. TTP also conducted deepened life histories with the children and grandchildren to explore how the parents’ experiences impacted the next generation.
